THURSDAY 9/15 ~ Ludic Liberation Lab: THE GIFT OF RISK
What do we risk in the act of giving and receiving?
Dear Ludic Liberators,
What's in a gift? Is it a gesture of generosity? Or disguised manipulation to trap someone in sequence of unpayable debts? An opportunity for appreciation and delight? Or misunderstanding and disappointment? How do we negotiate relational risks when we choose, present, and receive gifts?
During this month's Ludic Liberation Lab, we will explore relational risk through the semiotically and economically loaded phenomenon of "the gift." We will experiment with the risky dynamics of giving others compliments and criticisms and play an original Ludic Liberation game called “GIFTOLOGY.” In GIFTOLOGY, players compete to design a perfect gift for others using provocative prompts and cleverly limited information, in the process revealing surprising intentions, desires, and possibilities.
This lab is the first of three this Fall exploring the theme of “Relational Risk.” The Labs will get progressively more risky with the season. Giftology risk level is 3/10 (+/-) for most.
